Default I threw a code

My ses light has popped on a off this winter. It came on again after starting it on a cold morning. I decided to get a scanner and read it. It said something like o2 heater circuit malfunction bank 1 sensor1. Something in that order. So is that a bad o2 sensor or bad cat? I do have magnaflow highflow cats on. The car also runs fine. Just checkin' to see if yo guys have any input for me. Thanks.

99% sure it is a bad O2 sensor.

A bad cat would throw the codes P0420 or P0430.

Make sure the wiring for the driver side front o2 sensor is not burnt against your header. If not, the MOST LIKELY cause is 02 sensor.

No it wont hurt anything. The functionality of the O2S itself is not malfunctioning its the heater circuit within the O2S that has an issue. When you turn on your vehicle the computer sends current/ground to the O2S and it raises the temp of the O2S and burns off any film or diposits that are on the sensor. But the sensor still reads correctly when used. The way to fix it would be to replace the O2S. Test for a short burst of current going to the O2S when you first cut the key on should last 3-5 seconds.

I erased it. We'll see if it comes back.

it will probably come back but it is no big deal...just a symptom of having LT's. it doesn't affect performance at all.

that code is very common in winter time, i started my car up after sitting all winter and got that code from both o2's. i cleared them and never came back. basically if the o2 doesn't reach a certain temp in a certain time, it will throw that code hintz the always happing in the cold weather. it won't affect anything other than an ses light and if the problem stays, possibly might not pass emissions.
