Default Which GM head bolt set (p/n) to use?

Never a tore a LS engine apart; I’m getting the parts together for a H/C change and don’t know which head bolt set to use. There are two to choose from. One set 20 long and 10 short and the other set 16 long, 4 med, and 10 short. I'm installing 243 heads on a 99 LS1 block. Thanks

I went with the ARP Head Studs, Hex Nuts style. Great clamping force and good if you ever have to pull the heads again, so you're not burning another set of stock Torque To Yield GM Bolts.

There's three things I like about using ARP studs is that 1. they put less stress on the threads in the block which is a good thing in my oppinion, 2. they are easier to get a uniform torque value since they are a torque value in ft/lbs as opposed to a torque to yeild which requires a specific torque angle meter to get a truely consistent reading and 3. the fact that they are re-usable when / if you pull the heads. Hell you can take them out and use them in another block if you chose to go with another motor one day.

Pay me now or pay me later.

Here are the GM bolts. You need to order 2 of these, one set for each head:
