Went from 13.54 to mid 14's after header install.. Any advice?
I've got a 98Z A4 and last year in september it would run consistent 13.5-13.6's with 2.0 60's and just a lid. In november I installed pacesetter lt's, ory, and hooker catback. I took the car to the track last night temp around 50 degrees and ran made three runs. 14.2, 14.4, and 14.6 @ 96-98 mph and 2.2 2.3 60's. I have a couple theories.. After I installed the headers to this day I haven't got a service engine soon light and I deleted air and egr. Makes me think the car has been tuned before I got it. The red check gauges light flashes almost constantly but doesn't stay on. Another thing is the y-pipe banging and some people suggest that it causes knock and retards timing?? Anybody have any ideas?? I'm thinking I probably need a tune.

Sounds kinda like the car wasn't running as hard as it should have even before. You should be getting better than 13.5 w/2.0 60' bone stock. And the LT's definetly shouldn't have slown you down. Although your 60' times were worse than before the install & that is gonna effect your time too. I went from a 13.2 to 12.9 after my LT install.
Most people don't require a tune after LT's. Hell I'm still not tuned after my H/C & full exhaust & mine runs perfectly fine. If someone did go in with a handheld tuner prior to you buyin the car that could possibly be effecting you. I say go to the local parts store & have them scan it for codes & find out if there is a problem.

running lean, A/F ratio needs a tune. i tell people on the web just adding headers will gain 20 rwhp with a tune. i was told even a 85 mm MAF sensor will lean out your car. get a real tune , i had bad luck with a mail order tune.

It used to 60 2.0's consistently before the headers and full exhaust. It has stock 16" street tires. I've tried pre-loading the suspension and launching as well as just stabbing it.

did you just suggest beating the exhaust? did you used to own a red SS? bc mine looks like the previous owner beat it with a big hammer....over and over and over. whats wrong with you people??? say it with me...YOU DONT BEAT OR FLATTEN EXHAUST, THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOUR CAR FASTER.
