Default Exhaust system for 450 rwhp

I'm currently putting together a built 347 for my car and I think I need to upgrade my exhaust system. I currently have the Dynatech headers with their 2.5" y pipe into some 3" pipe through a 3" maganflow and dumped. I think this setup maybe restrictive once I get the new motor together. My new setup I'm looking at building would be a 3" y pipe to 3to4 flowmaster merge connector into 4" pipe with like a 4" dynatech muffler dumped. I really don't have room for true duals because I have a tunnel mount torque arm. Any other ideas?

Thanks

Scott

a single 3" exhaust is capable of flowing alot more than some people think. i only lost 6 rw through my hooker catback v/s open cutout. some are more restrictive than others but i've heard the magnaflow flows pretty well also.

Definately ditch your y pipe. I think what you have planned should be just fine.

"Definately ditch your y pipe."

He can't, as he stated above. Unless you mean ditch the current one for another one. I'm running 2.5" y-pipe to 3.5" i-pipe and 3.5" catback, you may have difficulty getting a 4" over the axle as it's already tight on mine. Unless you plan on a PHR relocation kit.

I meant ditch the 2.5 for the 3.5 or 4".

imho you dont need more than 3" with a 347 unless it's supercharged.

Magnaflow has great flow numbers and helps make decent power.

Im kind of in the same boat with you... I dont know if my Y pipe is dynatach, but I believe has similar dimensions and a magnaflow catback (I wanted hooker at first, but it was gonna cost more to fab up an exhaust for it)

and now Im making more power and want to know what a better setup is... I wanna keep this setup, since Im going broke with the new 402 Im putting together, but... I wanna know how much this is restricting me...

oh and sorry to hijack

I pretty sure 3" y to 4" is the way I'm gonna go. I've got a mig welder so I'm gonna fab it up myself shouldn't be too hard. I'll post some pictures up once it gets done. I'm also looking at sectioning out a part of the passenger side floor board so I can fit the muffler in and dump it before the rear axle.
