Optima Red Top is a great replacement idea, but if you are looking to shed weight then a little Odyssey PC680 might do the trick. You will have to buy or make post adapters, but it weighs a little less than half of a regular full size battery.

PC680 on Ebay is what I am ordering ... get the Extreme Duty AGM. Leave your lights on very long or run a stereo system or accessories that pull a lot of amperage and you'll kill the battery pretty quick from what I hace heard. Mine's for the track ... any lomng trips and I'm, swapping back in the DieHard. A lot of people use the PC680 and are happy with it.

Optima yellow top here. Love it love it love it, but probably won't help save weight I'm sure.

I love my battery. It starts the car every time flawlessly and it cost me a whole $30 give or take. Guess what it is.......

A NAPA GENERIC!

I'm really not trying to be an ***, but all the dam thing does is start the car. It has no function whatsoever after the engine has turned over. As for light weight, I don't know of too many people that use them, but I know the dyna-batts have been around for a while and I cant remember hearing anything bad. Might be a good choice for you. I believe Thunder racing has em.

Actually, battery selection CAN be pretty important. My track car has a high compression 396 and the battery is located in the rear. Those two factors mean that a cheap battery does not cut the mustard. Circumstances had forced me to go to the track once with one back there and it was a little annoying worrying if my car would turn over, or if that cheap battery would embarrass me right in front of everyone in the staging lanes. It barely threw the starter over a couple times.

I have been looking into this for a while. Have you looked at the Braile batteries? I want to shed a few pounds and still retain practicallity for the stereo and lights.

The DEKA supposedly is the same battery ... just re-packaged. By far the cheapest option and the lightest, but, I wouldn't put a motorcycle battery on my car and chance it.

Ok ,you make a good point, but that's on a heluva stroker, LOL. I guess I just don't understand why people with stock and bolt on engines go spend almost $200 on a battery when a $30 one can do the job.

Well I think im far beyond minor bolt ons ive got 560rwhp and if i could save 20 lbs it would be great. I looked at the braille and even the odyssey but just wondering pros and cons. There is even one company that is making a battery that goes in the car. weight like 4lbs. It's 2 batteries one for acc the other to start. Sounds interestin
