SLP Lid vs. K&N FIPK
OK, so I have been reading up on LS1 bolt on modifications (specifically for '02 Camaro's)...just doing a little research for down the road and I have found that the most common (first) mod that is typically done is an SLP lid. I have done a little reading and have found that you can buy the lid by itself (for about $100) or there is a whole SLP induction kit which includes the lid that is around $310. Also, other options include the classic K&N FIPK for around $400. So, what I'm asking is...do you get as good of performance with the lid (and a good filter such as a K&N drop in) as you would with the FIPK? Also, is the whole SLP kit worth it or is the lid all you need? I get the feeling that the best overall upgrade would be the FIPK but the gain over the lid isn't worth the extra $300...is that the case or am I completely wrong?
Also, I have looked at several '02 Camaro LS1 cars and some of them come with the factory SLP package. Do the factory SLP cars come with the SLP induction setup already? Also, how do you tell if the car is infact equipped with the SLP factory parts?
Thanks!!!

Well I can't speak for any numbers themselves comparing the SLP lid to the FIPK, although surely you could spend the $300 that you save on something which will gain far more power.
The SLP cars did not come with the induction kit - it was simply an SLP lid.
As I said, I don't have any numbers to back this up, but personally I'd just buy the SLP lid, and put the $300 twoards headers.
Hope this helps

SLP SS's came with different options. Mine came with the 335HP package as stated on my window sticker sheet and SLP sheet. I had the Dual-Dual c/b and chrome rims (that r now junk b/c the previous owner was a toolbag...). Anyway; it all depends on what you, or the origional owner optioned for from SLP; if anything at all.

waaay back when my car was stock, she came with an SLP lid from the factory... i swapped it out for a K&N fipk, and noticed a pretty good SOTP difference. i would think the k&n would work even better with an SS hood...

i have the FIPK with the free ram air mod (opening cut out underneith the filter) seems to work greet.
with the FIPK you will get alot more intake noise than with a lid. i think it sounds pretty cool.

No SLP cars ever came with the SLP lid from the factory. The 345hp pkg for the SLP cars came with the Blackwing lid and filter. The SLP lid that you can buy from SLP is not the same as the Blackwing lid that they put on the SS and Firehawks.

Im running the K/N FIPK on my Mecham, I like it but for the money you would be better off with a simple lid. I ran the one I have because it was easy to do the maf delete for the SP tune and it doesnt neck down like the lid does. Its a strait 4" path to the TB.

They all seem to be good. The lid is great for the price.
One thing I have always digged for the F-Body is the Volant intake...I think it looks better than the K&N.

Back when my car was a full bolt on car I was curious about this, since its been a debate since i first registered on here, I swapped out my lid and homemade ram air for a volant intake that a friend of mine was trying to sell me. To me it made NO noticeable difference as far as SOTP or gas mileage goes. They do look bad ***. Especially on Trans-Ams. So I would say just grab a lid (usually find them in the classifieds, ebay, or locally CHEAP) and put the rest towards exhaust mods, which will net you more power anyway.
