Default will i need a tune?

i am going to put pacesetter LT race headers on my car prolly next weekend. ive read many threads about a tune/headers. will my car run like crap with the long tubes/ no cats and no tune? i plan on getting a tune eventually to program out all the codes from the headers.

thanks

It will run exactly the same but faster, it may be a tad rough at first and your gas mileage may be slightly lower. I did do simms with my ORY setup tho.

its not going to run like crap, you are fine without a tune. if you plan doin a cam and other stuff id just wait on the tune until you do that stuff.

Any job, big or small, its worth doing right, or not at all.

If your going to pull the cats, get the rear o2's turned off, driveability will suffer and prob gas milage. Also you will prob be running lean.

u really need to get it tuned. especially with race style long tubes to get all the emissions junk turned off. u will have a check engine light and mine ran like *** till i got it tuned.

I don't see how taking off the A.I.R., and not using rear 02's will change anything, besides a ses light

you are also changing air flow. same reason a car can run lean switching to a larger maf sensor. this can make it run rich. and on mine it ran like ****.

I had a small tune from Jeremy formato, all he did was take off the rear 02's and some other small things. I doubt he changed anything major in my tune though. Mine runs awesome.

You don't have to have a tune after that, hell I've been driving mine with lontubes and true duals for almost a year now untuned. It would be a good idea to get a good tune with it though if you can afford it.

Put it on a dyno and see where your A/F ratio is at, hell most dyno's are 35-40 dollars...

Maybe where your from, most here are at a minimum 100$ for 3 pulles w/ A/F.

My car with the mods listed and w/ CATS

Had 6 deg of knock, gained 14 hp at the peak w/ tuning and over 20 at red line, it drove fine w/o tune due to having CATS but def under powered. It like to bog at the track with anything less then a 6k clutch dump.

if you get a ses light the car will not run very good, as it will motly likely stay in open loop untill you get the ses light cleared or tuned out. If you get them cleared they will come back.

You can get a basic tune for under 100 bucks that deletes rear o2's, air system, and some other things. I would reccommend this to anyone putting race style headers on.

A full out tune at this point is almost worthless if you plan on modding in the future.

not really. as retunes generaly are very cheap. my car has been tuned 5 times. and each one after the first has been very cheap. most expensive part was the dyno time as i wanted a dyno sheet.

my car also had 2* of knock after the header install. seriously u may not "need" a tune but i wouldnt cheap out on it unless u have no problem building a motor because of something stupid happening.

When i put my LT's on the car ran fine, and it did feel faster. Yeah the SES lights came on. But when i got it all tuned i gained an extra 20RWHP and noticed my gas mileage was better!

But like they said, i would do all the mods that you would want to do and then at the end...get it tuned

An SES light will not automatically make your car run bad. If it is something to do with the front O2's or knock then yes, but an ses light triggered from rear O2's, egr, air, etc. will not affect the performance.

I wouldn't say a full tune at that point would be worthless, it just depends how long he plans on going before his next major mod. I think it would be worth it to get a good tune now if it's going to be a while before your next mod, since retunes are usually pretty cheap.

Just wait till Jeremy comes to roys shop and give him 100$ he'll hook you up, he's a generous guy.

In the mean time, you can drive around with headers and ORY fine.

have roy hook you up with jeremy when he comes down next. Do all the free mods, and get a base tune- like 100 bucks and it will make a difference.

What are you plans for the car as it may change if you should get a full tune or a very basic tune.
