I had two of my idler pulleys that were whining a couple months back. They sound like they can be coming from anywhere though. I just went to an auto parts store and bought a couple replacement pulleys and it was fixed. They have a bearing in them that go bad and thats what whines. The fixed pulleys (bolted) won't make a noise. I had just used an engine degreaser and that had dried them out. A bad pulley will have some resistance when spinning them with the belt off.

Determine which pulley is making the noise (take belt loose & spin each....you can feel when the bearing is getting rough) and you can replace them with OEM plastic, or for not much more replace w/our billet units with much better bearings.
