Smile Headers...

What is the difference between race style headers and ones that arnt?

1 3/4 or 1 7/8? which is better to get?

I have a 02 Z28 and i want to get a cam, so i was told i need a decent pair of headers. I have a magnaflow catback system, but i want to put in a Y-pipe without cats..

Is am off road y pipe a y pipe without cats ? if so that what i would want.

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I'd say 1 3/4 unless you plan on going FI or bigger cubes later then I'd get the 1 7/8. The ORY doesn't have cats.

Race style means no AIR tubes, or EGR tube if your car is (98-00).

Peace,
Craig.

I live in south Dakota so we dont have any emission laws, so the best thing to get would be race style headers and a ORY for the best performance?

Race style or not there isn't a difference in performance, just cleaner looking. I didn't, but if I had to do it again I would get the race style so I wouldn't have block off plates staring at me when I pop the hood. Will cut them off one day and weld them up. Make sure if you get the race style to get the AIR,EGR, and rear 02's tuned out.

There is a difference with race style headers, when you block them off....they break off! ...so just get the race style ones!

Yes those headers will work, just hope he welded up the EGR hole good, and the 1-7/8" is fine.

Peace,
Craig.

Now will purchasing a set of Pacesetters be a waist of money, and going with a more expensive pair be better? or will going with less expensive be fine?

Any headers/y-pipe will go with any cat-back (for the most part). And yes that will for you.

That link was Kooks headers, probaby the best headers out there for the LS1. Best collector, stainless steel, fitment, etc... But yes they cost alot.

Peace,
Craig.

I absolutly LOVE my coated Pacesetter/ORY and my dad has no problems with his stainless XS headers.

Either is a great header/Y combo and very very affordable

It just depends on you and your budget. The pacesetters will offer a gain close to that of kooks or QTP but is not stainless steel and wont last as long. I am going with QTPs from MPH Motorsports for $701, but like I said its up to you.

Yup, to each their own. And to whatever you can afford too.

Peace,
Craig.
