Default Recomend a Cat converter or just gut it?

My 00 Z-28 has about 105K miles on it. Its basicly stock. Its a little slugish. i Know i need a new MAF sensor but i was also thinking about either replacing the cat or gutting the one i have now.

My question is which way should i go? if i gut it whats all involved? will it mess with my 02 sensors?

If i got new cat converter which one should i go with. Ive seen one on ebay looks kind of universal.

Any recomendations are appreciated!

If you gut your cats, you will have a check engine light on all the time. You would need a tune or some rear o2 sims to get rid of the code. Also if you gut your cats, you should weld a pipe inside the cats, so airflow is not disrupted.

I just bought/installed a Bassani ORY Pipe... my gas milage went up alot more than I expected. I have the predator, but have not tuned it yet basically because my check engine light never came on. The install was pretty easy, just had to bend the drivers side pipe a little bit (bolt to manifold, heat with propane torch and bend in desired direction). Other than that it is a really nice piece. The only thing i dont like about it so far is that my magnaflow catback now sounds very raspy. But with the improved fuel economy Im not complaining... I think the pipe will pay for itself in a month or two with the amount of gas I am saving.

if you want to get rid of the CAT get on ORY and a tune. Otherwise dont gut the CAT, it will just cause turbulence in the exhaust flow because of the shape of the hollowed out pipe and you wont gain any performance.

Mufflex makes converter bypass pipes that install in the existing y-pipe.

A nonsponsor sells stainless "Converters" for 35 dollars a pieces. They look real but have a straight 3'' through the housing. There was a thread in the lounge about them just a couple days ago, check it out.

Interested as well. I have a ORY coming and will need my cats for Texas emmissions, but not for 2.5 more years. I will be tuning, so what is my best option? Sorry to hi-jack.
