Default Freeze plug for intake?

I had somebody bring me a freeze plug and it's 1 3/8ths, but I'm not certain that it's the same thing everyone is using. It's just a metal cup shaped piece, with rounded corners on the top. It's only about 3/8ths of an inch thick. Is this right or is there something better to use? There's no seal or anything.

You need a rubber expanding freeze plug 1 1/4" to 1 3/8". It is about an inch thick or so, and has a nut on the top that you screw down to expand it.
