Default Is my thermostat stuck?

My car stays at about 3/4 of the way to the first notch on my temperature gauge "maybe 170ish" in normal driving. At the track it will rise to close to 210. I am just curious to see if it may be stuck? The car is a all stock 1998 model. Thanks

That sounds normal, mine is around the same. When I'm in stop and go traffic it will rise to 210, but after I get moving at a constant speed it will drop back to around where yours is. I wouldn't worry about it. The 1998 models have the gauge that reads the actual temperature. I think the 99 and up models got the gauge that goes to 210 automatically.

The problem is your fan settings.

I have a 99 and the guy I bought it from said he put a 160 thermostat on it and i have the receipts but it does go straight to 210. Is it because of the gauge?

Yeah. It's the gauge. In the 99+ Cars, if the car is at operating temperature, they all read about the same.

In my 98 it'll read like 1/4 of the way up on the temp gauge, but if it's sitting it'll go up to 210.
