Default Got the SLP lid on... yikes

Put an SLP airlid on the car today. It already had a K&N air filter in it which was nice and saved me $67. But holy **** it's not as easy as it appears. The MAF didn't want to come off the stock sound deadening **** and then didn't want to go into the new SLP lid. Definitely sliced my fingers open pretty deep when I was trying to get the MAF off. It still isn't on entirely but there is no way it is going to leak. And I did the free ram air mod. The throttle response is a lot better but haven't tested the power since it's raining...

Wow. Putting a lid on is not that serious. Which SLP lid did you get? I just bought one off a member here that was the 01-02 style and it went in easily. Just took some elbow grease and twisting to get the maf into the lid. I would make sure it is seated all the way so it doesnt wiggle out after a few hundred miles. If your losing blood putting a lid on, I would hold off a while before trying something more difficult........

No kidding. It was ridiculous. It was on my '02. Definitely not a fun time. I'm worried about hurting myself washing my car now! lol What should have taken 30 mintues tops took 2 and a half! I ended up dremeling a slit on both sides of the deadening stuff so that I could get the MAF off! It looks like it's pointing down a little ways now which kind of worries me... but I'm lost on how to get it right. It's like the MAF and the inlet on the lid aren't compatable. Kinda sad... Even tried to lube it up!

Yeah sold out spring game... Was gonna get tickets the day of like usual... but no!

try putting the lid between your legs and twisting the maf until you can work it into place. You might be able to put it in a vice, but you will probably crack the lid.

I could... lol I got it all covered and stuff before it started bleeding. Pretty deep though. Got 3 fingers skined but the one is gashed. haha I feel great about it. I pushed down hard on the wooden are a chair. I was worried about THAT cracking it because it wasn't even moving! I got the sanding ap out for the dremel and tried to wear down the inside a bit and it didn't even help.

SLP had their lids made by a bunch of people. I have seen some that crack easy and some fit better than others. It is a cheap piece either way, imo.

yep just use a hair dryer to heat the plastic, the maf will almost fall out. Use it to reinstall also

If you did a search and found out about the hair dryer you would have finished in half the time if not sooner.

I'm almost positive that the MAF had never been removed from the lid once in the 9 years before I got it.
