Default Camaro :: Swapped from bullets to Magnaflow 4x9's

Cliff notes: I had a local friend cut off my Dynomax 3" bullets and weld on some Magnaflow 4x9's as we call them. Both the old and new mufflers have had turn downs.

Good: Sounds better, more tuned, took some of the raunchiness out.
Good: Ground clearance is pretty decent, I'll take pics.
Bad: Not as quiet as I had hoped, in fact I'm not sure they are much quieter, but they are a bit. A vid would good right, I'll take one.

Since the mufflers are a straight-thru design, I'm not worried about losing any power, so overall I'm happy. I like the exhaust note much better so that's a plus.

How is the noise compare to a ORY pipe and a cat back? What about the noise/drone level when driving around town. What I hate about my setup is the drone between 1500 and 2800 rpm. Will a true dual eliminate most of that?

glr, I have my turndowns about a foot in front of the rear end, so it's much louder than having an ORP and catback.

Sounds pretty good. The way people had talked about them before, you'd think they would quieten down the system pretty good.

I was driving around the North side of Chicago, so I was not way up there in the rpms. If I drive it to the Speed Inc. open house this Saturday I'll be able to tell if it drones. I would say that these mufflers are not mega quiet. But I was born in the 60's so it might be loud to me but quiet to a guy born in the 80's. I think it sounds cool though.

Yeah I know. I'll be cleaning up the car tomorrow morning and taking it to the Speed Inc. open house as long as it's not raining. Or I'll just do some vid on Sunday.

Hehe. Maybe I'll make a custom ORP and run it over the axle, and run one, I bet it would sound pretty good.

I have the 4x9 magnaflows and ran them for a while with NO turndows. That was pretty loud. Since I added turndowns angled out 4:30 and 7:30 positions and it quited it down immensily... I love it now.

I had turndowns with the bullets, and now with the 4x9's... I'm sure some new vid will pop up of me doing a few burnouts at the Speed Inc. Open House today.

2001 Pewter ws6 loves his turndowns but his neighbors HATE them.

I still hope to listen to a vid. I want to know the "quietest" way to have TDs dumped. I would assume the Magnaflows....but I dont know.

I'd think pointing the turndowns away from each other would help some.

I'm having the same problem with my true duals.... they're too loud and i'm losing my hearing.

I need suggestions on how to quiet these down... I heard hushpowers were good, but i'm cammed so i don't want any power loss.

The trick here seems to be finding a muffler that can reduce db enough, and still within a reasonable ammount of space.

here is MY comparison. first vid is 3" Xpipe with no mufflers. the 2nd is with the mufflers and turndowns slipped on. didn't change the camera location or anything.

and you can hear the door chime in both...so you can see the camera is picking up decent sound.

you can barely tell the engine is idling in the 2nd vid.

now don't get me wrong. the car is still loud enough to get LOTS of compliments (even harley guys) and to wake the neighbors in the AM...but compared to the earsplitting straight pipes the Magnaflows do a GREAT job.
