Default advice on quiet catback

Ok, I must be getting old. I currently have a 3" true dual, under the axle, exhaust setup with magnaflow 4x9's. It's just getting to loud for me to drive it around town. I'm gonna be going back to a Y pipe setup (fabbed up by me) and into a quiet catback. I'll be using a 3" electric cutout after the Y so power robbing issues are not there. I like the loudness.....but not all the time, which is why I think going back to a stock style setup would be best for me. I've been looking at hooker, elderbrock, and the dual dual (although it's not made anymore). I'm just looking for some input from those who have had multiple systems on their car. Btw, car does have the MS4 cam and should sound really sick with the cutout.

But will the magnaflow be all that quiet with an ORY and longtubes? My main concern is it being quiet, and not stock. Hell, I might even just throw on a stock catback even though it will really hinder power when the cutout is closed.

I think a hooker catback or the dual/dual are going to be your best bet, with the dual/dual being the quietest by a little bit.

If you can find a dual dual that would be the one to get. If you can't find that get the magnaflow. I have a Magnaflow dual dual system with a ory and a 232/236 595/601 cam. My car is quiet until it take the cutout off.

If I was going to go back to a y-pipe, I would get a y with a good merge to help out with that little bit of rasp that you will have.

Flowmaster merge or custom Y will be used. I'll be making the y pipe myself outta 3" mandrel bends. Real easy to do with a chop saw and exhaust pipe flare tool.

Sounds good on the y-pipe. As far as the hooker................My friend has hooker on his car. It is a stock car with LT's and ORY. His car sounds good with hooker. The only reason I don't like it is because it is not stainless. You won't go wrong with any of the three mentioned. The quietest of the three would prob be the dual dual.

I say Hooker. I didn't like my Magnaflow. Was very quiet with the stock manifolds/cats and such, but when I did the heads/cam/LTs/ORY and everything, it was VERY loud and messy sounding.

Put a Hooker on it and it got quieter and got a much cleaner sound.

Dynomax Super Turbo 3" in dual 3" out.

I tried a bunch of mufflers and finally decided on this one - sounds good, but not Loud.

Thanks for everyone's input. I just scored a killer deal on Ebay (at least I think so) for a dual dual catback....used to be an SLP CME, which is the same as a dual/dual. Here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWN:IT&ih=018
So, now all I need to do is order the dmh cutout and I'll be all set!

You're right about the cam sounding sick with the cutout open. Mine chops much harder with the open cutout than it did with the TD's. I love stoplights with a car sitting next to you on the passenger side . With the cutout closed, the average joe would have no clue I have a cam. The dual/dual is stock quiet, even with LT's, ORY, cam.
