Default Mr. Gasket Thermostat in LS1? How?

I did search but found no specific answers.

I ordered one of these (180*) from Summit because it was listed to fit LS1's and priced like a thermostat. Now that I have it I see it fits LS engines '04 and newer. I emailed Mr. Gasket tech and they said, "We do not care a housing for that engine." Yes they said care lol.

So is there a trick to be able to use this? Will it replace the original thermostat in my housing or will an '04+ housing adapt it onto the LS1 (1999)? If not who makes a reasonably priced 180-190* that bolts up?

Thanks for any help here,
Vernon

To make it work you would need a newer style water pump. You cant make that one work i ran into the same problem i wasnt paying attention and ordered one for a 03.5 and newer. But then ordered the correct one which is the housing and all.
