Custom Intake, New hood
Well its been a little while since ive been on here.. Ive had some winter fever going on so I decided to ram home some new goodies. I bought a ws6 hood and painted the car.. came out pretty good. I also decided i needed a different intake now but didnt want to spend gobs of money doing it so what I did was I fabricated my slp lid with my stock lid and inserted two k&n filters in it. One in the top for "ram air" and one in the bottom for well "sucking air"
The outcome was pretty good. Here are some updated pics...

Interesting idea, and it looks very clean too. Have you seen an improvement from it? Don't mean to sound critical, but in order to have the ram air effect, wouldn't the lid have to be sealed off in order to create pressure to ram the air in to the engine? Seems like having two openings would defeat that. I'm not an expert on it and I'm probably be wrong, but just curious I guess. Definitely a nice setup though. Nice car too, the hood and paint look great.

Thanks! I like it.. I deffinately noticed my fuel trims equal out after doing this and deleting air injection and egr. Most likely had a air leak somewhere in there.. As for ram air.. eeehh.. You cant really ram air into an engine anyways unless you turbo or supercharge.... the engine is just a big vacuum.. My goal was just to get as much cold air in as possible and so far it works!
cheers!

Thats what Im working on now... Problem is with the way this setup sits i cant really clip it directly into the protective shroud.. But im working on adapting the shroud as well.. Should have something concrete here soon.

Sweet! So i could theoretically have a turbine engine now!?!
Just kiddin.. Umm well Dont really know of a way to find that one out.. I doubt it would though.. they are angled the same direction.. Sounds wicked when i turn off the engine though..

Yeah Ive driven her.. I can deffinately say there is a seat of the pants difference.. But that could be because i havent driven her all winter.
I did notice that my intake air temperature doesnt get heat soak quite as much now and my fuel trims are settling down.. But i still need to secure it to the shroud and prevent the temperature from the radiator from interfering to much with the intake..
Ill take some more pics today of the whole intake and post them.

I never realized you had epoxied the factory air lid to the bottom... I don't understand why you didn't just leave the factory filter where it was and add a filter to the top of the aftermarket lid (this is what I had thought you had done the whole time).
Looks good though, should breathe great!!!

Well clearance issues for one.. I needed the extra depth to insert the k&n into the top and before I did all this I was getting some bad leaks from the bottom side from before when i modified the whole setup. I cut out the bottom of the factory setup for more airflow but in reality after about a thousand miles of driving half of the k&n was black and half was clean.. obviously stock was the way to go. So my goal in mind was to clean up the whole setup while utilizing the "ram air"
Come to think about it now, seat of the pants is well worth it! and my ltfts are stabilizing now. but thats a whole other subject all together....
