NGK NGK TR55's a bad idea? somebody reassure me...
i got my plugs and wires changed today and the guy at the shop called and told me that it might not be a good idea to use those plugs because they weren't iridium plugs and that it could cause some kind of melting and cause some serious damage to my motor... but from what i've seen on here the TR55's are the way to go..... so what's the deal with that? and how many miles are those plugs good for?
btw i also used 8.5mm MSD wires with them

Take it to another shop. No joke. I bet they don't even gap the plugs. WTF is going to melt off the plug? Actually the iridium ones can melt off if you run nitrous. NGK without iridium are the preferred plug of MOST lsx enthusiasts (any make, model, yadda yadda actually) running ANY power adder. So if you run nitrous or make more power than stock non-iridium plugs are SAFER. Yes the standard $2 NGK tr55. Tell him to shut up and put em in.
And why don't you work on your car? Yes a plug change is hard but it isn't rocket science and you will feel better doing it yourself. Not trying to be an *** but you WILL feel better.
20-30k on the mileage. Trust me the factory replacements need replacing way way before the 100k claimed.

yea you're prob right but i gapped the plugs myself so i hope they didnt try to gap them any differently... i went with .055 btw
and believe me i would have MUCH rather changed them out myself but because of my schedule plus lack of tools at the moment, i couldnt...
next time i'll prob try to do it myself... but at least now i'm not worried anymore that i used the TR55's

i switched the stock plugs on my car around 50k and there was almost nothing left of them. put in the tr55s and put 30k on them and they still look good. the cars runs smoother, idles better, and gets better gas mileage. the iridium stuff is expesive junk. i think i gapped mine between 50 and 60 thousandths, cant remember though.

I bet this shop says you have to pull the motor to change plugs also. TR55s here and MSD wires with zero problems. It's funny as a regular fix it shop know so little about LS1s. Prolly 99% of the **** that see are regular passenger sedans so they know dick when it comes to performance parts and not just OEM crap.

I use the TR-55 Iridiums, but a lot of people would say that's a waste of cash. Pulled them at 10k the other day to check em, and all 8 looked perfect.
Doesn't matter too much, I'd say, but NGK TR-55s are used by probably 90% of the people on this site, and I don't think anyone's complaining.
