Default Plug gaps

I still dont understand the advantages and disadvantages of gapping plugs....
NGX TR55IX... should be .055 but what if i gap it at .050 or .060 whats the deal...will I see anything different??? and I mean ANYTHING.... not just power gains.

Not WHAT you gap them at...but WHY

Default Re: Plug gaps

Gap depends on a lot variables, including compression ratio, air/fuel ratio, secondary ignition voltage potential, plug design, chamber design, and whatever else I may have forgotten. More compression (whether it be dynamic or static), leaner ratios, and lower secondary voltage potential = less gap. More gap makes the coils work harder and therefore produce more heat. However with coil on plug this is less of an issue. Follow the plug manufacturers recommended gap, unless you have some serious modifications.
