Default what causes the loud POP when the cars cold?

I dont have my air system hooked up meaning i pulled the fuse, What cause the loud pop when letting off the gas when cold or just in general? I thought the AIR system was only operable when starting the car. I know my POPS sound like a gunshot it's that loud LOL.

probably because the cold engine is running richer and in open loop mode. the rich exhaust is finishing burning more in the exhaust

I used to have AIR, and a "mufferless" exhuast, and it still made the sound....I liked it! haha.

LOL I do too sometimes it's soooo loud it sounds like a gunshot I mean it sometimes might be actually louder then a gunshot. It'd be funny to drive through a bad part of town and have it do it LOL. Watch everyone dive for cover.

you could be running lean during deceleration.
this can be the case especially under high RPM.

This only happened to me when I had Cats..

I think fuel might be hitting the cats and poping?

Mine did it when i had the air system still on. Took it off and have never had a problem one of the check valves were leaking.
