Default Descreened MAF

I was wondering how you descreen your MAF on a 01'z28?? Would porting the MAF also benefit also?? Im tryin' to help a buddy of mine, and we got to lookin' at the screen, and we didn't see a "snap" ring like in my 94's MAF...

take the *** end of a screwdriver or wrench and bash it out. Be careful not to mess with the MAF itself while going at it. One or two good taps should get it, and once its out, its not going back in.

Just leave it. And don't port the housing either. The MAF sensor is simply not something you want to mess with. Too easy to screw things up.

If you soaked the front face casting in liquid
paint stripper overnight, you could get the epoxy
that the screen is bedded in to separate from the
housing with an X-acto knife. Then it comes out
undamaged (in case you wanted to go back).

Well i descreened mine and ported the hell out of it at home. Works awesome...looks like hell but works like a dream. The maf surprisingly is really strong and as long as you dont take a hammer to the sensors you should be ok.

I agree with Ferocity- dont screw with it- ESPECIALLY in an automatic car. I did mine and my trans began slipping gradually and eventually failed.
After I spent $2k on a new trans and converter, I took the car to speed, inc. for a tune and they put the stock ends back on! They said that o2 readings get really erratic on a de-screened car and that they have cars with 500+ hp running the stock maf. Turns out that the MAF signal also controls line pressure on an auto, and most likely contributed to my trans failure.

Descreening the MAF on an F-body doesn't hurt a thing (so long as you don't damage the MAF.) Porting (which can cause problems) and descreening the MAF are two different things.
