Default Car problems

I got my QTP catted y pipe welded in yesterday and everything looks awesome.

I drove to the muffler shop with a pair of cats connected to the collectors to keep the noise down, it was loud as hell but the car ran fine.

So they did everything and I was ready to start my car. Started it and it sounded too damn quiet. Drove it around a little and its still quiet, but when I go WOT I really hear it.

I can't figure out why my catback would get quieter after a header install (corsa). Also there is a funny noise I hear coming from the front of the car, maybe the cats, it sounds sort of like light tapping on metal or crackling glass, very weird.

I am thinking maybe one of the cats have gone bad already? and that its causing a block in the air flow and thats why it starts up so damn quiet and drives around so quiet, only time it is louder than when I had my corsa is at about 4000RPMs +

I amm gonna be real pissed if a cat went out already.
BTW how can I check for that using some kind of diagnostic tool? There are no o2 sensors after the cats?

Well I drove today for about 150-175 miles and it seems like it got a little louder at low RPMS.

But there is still some ticking noise coming from under the car, it seems like right by the cats.

It sounds sort of like a light metal propellar is tapping on something. I know there are no propellars, but thats the best description I can think of

Well I did put gaskets on that were new, but they definetly were not that size.

I am taking a wild guess here and saying thats the air restrictor mod.

Damn it, I hate those air tubes, they are so annoying.

Does the ticking follow the exhaust "lope"? If it does, the sound you are hearing is coming from the header collectors....which is normal.

Not really, kinda just ticks and ticks and ticks and then ticks some more.....

Gonna get an AIR block off plate and drill the 3/16 hole in it and see what happens.

It'll be ok to use the block off plate right? Just wondering because it is about 1/2" thick, as opposed to a piece of sheet metal like the link above

yup i agree you have an exhaust leak and its probably right by your cat. you may have to loosen and retighten the where they hook up to your headers. maybe your gasket isn't sitting down right.
