Exhaust size - 3" or 2.5"
I'm in the middle of planning the layout of my true dual system and have noticed a variety of different pipe sizes used.
Some are 3" from header collector all the way back.
Some are 3" into the X and 2.5" after the X.
Some are 2.5" from the header collector all the way back.
So, my question is, which is the best configuration and why?

Re: Exhaust size - 3
How much power do you expect from the engine?
How much noise can you tolerate?
How much money do you want to spend?
IMO, if you are over 400 rwhp, 3 inch might be helpful. The problem is that many/most(?) mufflers, even some loud ones are the big restrictions in the system. Two Dynomax Ultraflow welded 3 inchers are adequate for all the power you'll probably ever make, even with nitrous.
Magnaflow makes very similar ones. Check the flow numbers from manufacturers: if they don't give flow numbers, even if they have "flow" in their names, I'd not use them.
I'd run the 3 inch pipes at least to the mufflers because the exhaust is cooling a lot, and therefore decreasing the volume of gas. For noise purposes, you coud transition gradually from 3 to 2.5 (over about 8 inches) just befor the 2.5 inch Ultraflows for a little quieter system.
