A rubber expandable freeze plug will do perfectly. It drops right into the manifold top hole and when you tighten it up, wont leak. I ran like that for months prior to tuning. When you take the EGR tube off the intake top, be careful not to drop the rubber O-ring underneath the fitting into the intake.

I think it was a 1-3/4 rubber freeze plug on mine....rubber seals a little better than the metal ones in this case....and because you can tighten it up...I feel safer about it staying in the hole...although....either will be fine.....and you really dont have to worry about either one....

The freeze plug I got cost me $1.99 and it's been working out perfectly.
You COULD take the old EGR off, chop the metal tube, bend it over and hammer it down about 3 times, and bolt it back up, it works, but it looks like you have a horn coming out of the top of the intake, we did this on my car so I could drive the car home, the next day I got the freeze plug and took a whoping 5 seconds to put it in.

Pic of GM part. Hard to see in the pic but there is a rubber seal on it ready to install.
