Default Drilling thermo to allow air to escape.Where to drill? (pic)

ok, I had this thermo not open for me when I installed it on my car a couple weeks ago. I was going to return it to Thunder Racing but they never returned my call. So... I tested it and it opened at 160* I figured a pocket of air (as others have suggested) was trapped and prevented the water from reaching the thermo. I am not exactly sure where to drill. I can only see two logical places and I have labeled them #1 and #2.

I have the same T-Stat sitting on my desk. Notice the little brass arrow head looking thing at the 6 O'Clock position (Your arrow at 9).

AFAIK, that little hole does the same thing your trying to do with the drill bit. Very strange that yours didn't open though..

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It sure didn't open though. Hrmmm... now I don't know what to think. I wish Thunder would call me back so I could return it.

Wouldnt it be two>? Thats where the water would stop right? Then if the hole was there water and air could pass, thats if my thinking is right...
