Default Couple cutout questions

I have stock I pipe, what size manual cutout should I get?
Also is there anyway to have a turndown on a manual cutout?

i THINK mine is a 3 inch. if you put it right before the rear axle there's already a heatshield there so you just angle the cutout slightly downward and there's no need for a turndown if that helps.

I have done a few cutout installs. From my experience this is what I know

My car is a 2002 Z28. I bought a 2.5 and I ended up having the spread the existing pipe and slipping the cutout into it. So I tried something else.

My cousin has a 2001 SS. We ordered a 3 inch and the bastard was a LOT bigger than the stock piping. If you get it welded it will be fine but just know that 2.5 is kinda small and 3 inch is kinda big. People will chime in and tell you they have 3 inch but they never seem to specify that they did not install it themselves or that it was slipped on.

Welding is the best way to go anyway, but if you dont have headers yet, just make sure you angle it where you wont lose clearance.

As far as the turndown, I suppose its possible. You might have to have a custom cutout built or some kind of setup where the turndown has a flange that will bolt to the cutout. Id like to see someone elses setup, as I have never seen that done. I have had my cutout on my Camaro for a couple years, and I dont have any soot or black marks where my cutout is. Anybody else?

3inch get the Jegs cutout since it is going on stock catback no use of getting a expensive one. You will ditch the stocker one day anyway.

Have welded you will be good to go, no need for a turndown.

I can get it welded so I think a 3inch would work. I was thinking a turndown would help make it sound a little better but that can be something to work on after I get it on. Maybe weld a piece onto the cap? That way when I take the bolts off, the cap and the turndown come off.

Damn I just noticed you have lts and ORY you may want to save up and go electric so you can leave the turndown on, it is going to be very loud

I would get an ECO as the manuals are either always ope or always closed. I love mine...I put it right on the end of the I-pipe before it bends up over the rear axle

I used to have a 3 inch cutout (2.5 inch pipe with 3" opening and plate) on stock ws6 exhaust with a QTP electric plate.
I took it to a local exhaust shop and he used header flanges and pipe to make one If I am right it cost 50.00 for him to fab it up and weld it on. worked great.

Before cutout

Hole in I pipe for cutout

Pipe fabed up with electric plate installed to ensure proper clearance

Pipe welded on I pipe awaiting switch, wires and electric plate ot be installed

Just thought of an idea for having a turndown on a manuel cutout. Could you weld the turndown to a flange then after taking the cap off put the flange with the turndown back on using the wingnuts?
