Default Cleaning out oily intake manifold

Ive just picked up an LS6 manifold and that came off another car that lunched its engine. Im going to fit new intake port and TB gaskets, smooth out the top with the dremel and then throw some colour on it

Whats the best way to clean it out "internally". Its full of oil (almost drips off my fingers) and who knows what else

Rags? Petrol?

Thanks

Thanks man.

That is looking like the only answer.
I was also thinking I may need to flush it as well and slosh some "liquid" around to clean it.... water? petrol?

i used a simple green/water solution with mine and cleaned it in the tub. i obviously let it dry for a real long time. i also sanded, primed, painted, and cleared it. turns out real nice, just take your time. you may want to pick up a catch can before you swap to keep the oil out of the new intake.

Simple Green will clean anything under your hood better than any other product. Carb Cleaner will just smear the oil around to different parts of the intake. Or you will use a buttload of it and just be a little bit cleaner than you were before.

Lol, Petrol. Where are you from?

I'd use Gunk engine degreaser, the kind that says use on a cool engine (as in not hot)
Spray it in there and let it soak, but you have to brush it. I'd find a good sized nylon brush and work it in real good, then hose it out with water.

Yeah, I think that stuff is "okay" if you are cleaning it in the car. More so cleaning a boat motor. Simple green will surprise you. Try it man.

When i was done sanding and smoothing the inlet of mine I used brake-clean, spayed it in all the runners and then thought the inlet and used a air gun to blow it all out, worked out real nice.

This might sound weird, but I stuck it in the bath tub and took some dawn to it....just make sure you get all of the suds out before re instillation...

X2 the Simple Green or the degreaser of your choice + carwash sprayer. Did the trick for me.
