Throttle Body Compatability 99 to 01?
Looking to purchase a ported throttle body. Friend of mine has a Bauer Stage 2 TB that is on his 99 TA that I am interested in buying for my 01 SS.
I've heard there are some issues with certain years regarding throttle cable linkage lengths, etc.
What years are compatable?
Is there a quick fix that can make them compatable?
Thanks.
Will

According to my parts list:
The GM part number for 98-99 throttle body is: 17113390
The 2000-2002 TB part number is: 17113647
I'm not sure what the differences are between them...

I used a 2000 TB on my 2002 car, but I guess that doesn't help us much here. I wonder what is different about the older TBs

98-99 have a "small" cam on the end of the throttle shaft. 00 and up have "large" cam. If you interchange TBs you might have some difficulty with cable length and getting full travel.
To convert small to large cam or vice versa, the entire throttle shaft has to be replaced. These are not available separately from GM, so you need to get a different TB core.
IMO, you'll be happier with a TB which has the correct cam for your year.

Just swap the shaft out of your stocker, onto
the new (ported) TB. It's about as simple as
can be, just remove the TPS housing and pop the
end of the shaft with a brass or aluminum drift
(to keep from mushrooming the end).
When I did my ported TB I used an older core,
might've been a truck one. The coolant lines
were wrong, so I did the bypass. The PCV line
was wrong, so I swapped them (you can work the
PCV bung out with a fat Phillips screwdriver;
the coolant lines are too small & tight).
Swapped in my '02 shaft, ground the stop, good
to go.
GM rapes any orifice that wanders in looking for
a TB (like $300), but junkers have to be getting
dirt-common by now.

From what I've seen, '00 and up aren't quite yet dirt-common.

Re: Throttle Body Compatability 99 to 01?
A little bit of info here in case people are looking for TB cores:
A 98-99 TB has a brown spring on it and a smaller throttle cam.
A 2000-2002 TB has a blue spring on it and it has the biggest throttle cam.
A Truck TB has a orange spring on it and a cam that is close to the 98-99 F-body ones but it's not a dead ringer for it.
The 98-99 and the 2000-2002 do not swap back and forth easily. So it realy should not be done.

For example this TB on Ebay is listed incorrectly as a F-body unit when it is in fact a Truck TB.

You can see the orange spring and the wide throttle cam.
