Default Magnaflow can you help me out?

I saw this this morning and when I went to see why my drivers side exhaust tip was hanging so low!!

I just got this catback system in February of last year and the welds for the hangers already fell out, the car is only a summer and weekends only car.

MagnaFlow, is there anything you can do to help me out?

thanks Zeke

Just take it to a exhaust shop and have them weld that piece back on,

I'm curious as to how much stress there was at the hanger. The exhaust tip shouldn't hang low in the first place. Once you tighten the clamp, the exhaust tip should stay in place and not move.

I hope you called Magnaflow first and not just come on here and make this thread.

No stress on the hanger

It was hanging low because the weld broke off

What if I wanted to rant and make this thread, when you buy a 400 dollar + stainless exhaust system, we shouldn't be worried about a damn weld on an exhaust TIP Paul!

Looks like a good case of hydrogen embrittlement of the weld.

"Hydrogen Embrittlement Failures
Tensile stresses, susceptible material, and the presence of hydrogen are necessary to cause hydrogen embrittlement. Residual stresses or externally applied loads resulting in stresses significantly below yield stresses can cause cracking. Thus, catastrophic failure can occur without significant deformation or obvious deterioration of the component.

Very small amounts of hydrogen can cause hydrogen embrittlement in high strength steels. Common causes of hydrogen embrittlement are pickling, electroplating and welding, however hydrogen embrittlement is not limited to these processes.

Hydrogen embrittlement is an insidious type of failure as it can occur without an externally applied load or at loads significantly below yield stress. While high strength steels are the most common case of hydrogen embrittlement all materials are susceptible."

If the failure was caused by hydrogen embrittlement, which more than likely it was, a re-weld will result in the same result down the road. And it will take it even less time to fail the next time around. The only way to fix it is to remove all the damaged material from around the welded area that was affected. Probably have to take 1/4 to 3/8" more, per side of the material away-at a very minimum. Even then there's no guarantee it will hold.

Magnaflow has always been known for its great quality and sound. For the most part, they do make great systems. Although, the finish is great and the fitment is top knotch, and I have heard of a few people having this problem. I hope Magnaflow can rectify the situation for you

I was just saying ranting about the problem won't get the problem solved.

I know it wont, I never said it will. That's why I'm asking for their assistance.

Just wanted to throw it out for others looking to spend their hard earned money like my self for a quality system that sponsors this section and that thousands of us always recommend.
I know I have always recommended it.
Now Im the "VIC".
Sure the fit was like a glove, the sound is awesome but unfortunately their welder sucks. It must of been a monday when my system was boxed!

same happened with mine. you have to go through the company that sold it to you to get a replacement. they have a lifetime warranty! they ended up requesting the old one be sent back (which i never did) and they send me a new one free of charge. its a pain in the neck but its worth it. good luck!

I think the fact that they are welding such a thick hanger on a very thing tip makes it hard not to get some burn through on the tip which results in what you see here. To get it hot enough to penetrate those hangers you are overheating the tip.

Unless your exhaust shop can tig weld it back I wouldnt let them mig weld it. Thats just gonna rust up the stainless.
