Default Those that drilled the tb..then plugged it

I had my tb drilled a long ago to have a tuner try to make it idle. Well I finnaly started tuning my own **** and I want to tune it right without it drilled. SO what did you guys use to plug the hole? Or should I leave it alone? I think the idle could be better

I agree, I would never use any kind of epoxy or JB weld because it's possible for it to get swallowed, that's not good when that happens. Before I got another blade I took a screw and nut and put that in the hole to plug it up. I had the screw long enough to booger up the threads and use a ton of red loctite so the nut wouldn't come off. I done that just long enough to get my new blade.

Junk-yard (as the TB itself doesn't get worn), and 78mm if I recall correctly.

I would just put a dab of rtv over the hole. It should stay. If it doesnt it wont cause any damage.

heres the deal...depending on the duration and lift of the cam on the intake lobe,..the IAC valve, even tuned to be open the entire way,..still may not flow enough air to idle properly. that is why tuners drill the throttle plate. they also drill the throttle body so that it flows enough air on its own,and the IAC can do its job(when tuned properly)to idle where you want it... when the engine is cold,or hot,a/c on or off, ect. the IAC valve basically replaced the old school chokes. the difference is it changes while driving to maintain acceptable idle. the hole should be approx. 1/4" on a 78mm T.B. dont try pluggin it. if youre not happy with it being drilled,or its drilled too big...replace it.

75mm. Someone measured it in one of the throttle body porting threads, 2.905 inch if I remember correctly but do remember for sure 75mm, that is with the blade removed and measured with a caliper.

i don't understand why people say drilling the hole is bad... after my mods, we worked on the tune on my car for WEEKS without drilling the hole... and the idle just was never right... it would die on cold starts, when the A/C was turned on etc...

finally we drilled the hole slightly larger, and low and behold ALL of the problems went away, and the car runs 100x better now... no issues what so ever... so why is everyone so negative about drilling the hole? seems like if it fixs the problem, with no negative side effects, then why not...?

The original poster isnt worried about doing it, he is curious if he could get the idle better had it not been drilled.

If the idle tune is done properly, you do not need to drill out the throttle body. I can get cams upto mid-24x durations with over 35 degrees of overlap to idle fine with the stock sized hole. In rare occassions it can be neccessary to drill out the throttle body hole, I have never had to do such though. What ever works, works.

You best bet is to just purchase a stock Throttle body from here or any online classifieds.

I think Jantzer has new blades for all the LSX throttle bodies. You can find him on ebay.
