Exhaust Dilemma

Exhaust Dilemma
I have a 99 Z28 thats pretty much stock except the exhaust/lid. I have the SLP Loudmouth on there and it looks like the previous owner replaced the resonator with some kind of bullet and i'm pretty sure it has been gutted. The cats appear to be emtpy as well. This thing is too loud. I drive it daily and on long highway trips. There is a ton of drone after 70 or right around 1500-1800 rpm.
I am not sure if i want to try and put another bullet inplace of the ones thats there and maybe then try some bullets in the tailpipes similar to the new SLP power-flo.
I can get my hands on a flowmaster catback for cheap and replace the muffler with a hooker aeroflow. The flowmaster also comes with a cutout.
Is there a noticeable difference between the slp loudmouth style catback and the crossflow type systems? Not sure which i should do.

Well, you could always find a used Hooker or Magnaflow catback for pretty cheap. They are very tame catbacks, so you could weld in a cutout for times you want to be loud. Also, the loud you get from a cutout will be much better sounding than you get from a loudmouth with no/gutted cats. It will sound more like a muscle car and less like a machine gun
