Duals without the X-pipe?
just wanted to get some feedback about what I want to do...right after the headers, I want to run about a foot of 2.5" piping followed by a bullet muffler...basically just like a dual system just without the x-pipe
I've been told that I would lose a bunch of low end torque but gain a bit of top end?
the car is not a daily driver, and emission/sound are not an issue.
TIA

Yeah for sure a cross over pipe there-if not it wont sound/perform as good.Ive heard the Dr.Gas Z pipe is good if you want an X pipe.

Screw the X-pipe!! Hahahaha!
Sure a system with a crossover will gain some hp over one without one, but how much are you really losing without one? I'll put one on eventually, but I would think TD's no X should preform better than say a dynomouth setup. Just my $.02...I say go for it.

Re: Duals without the X-pipe?
I've seen a 400 hp SBC pick up over 20 lb-ft of torque with an X vs no crossover. Thats a lot of torque.
Anyone have dyno #'s for LS1s with/without X ???

Re: Duals without the X-pipe?
thanks for all the replies.....the main reason I am considering going without the X-pipe is I can buy and build one for around $100 VS $500 for duals installed....
There is a guy here in dallas that is going this...his car sounds wicked! He also says he gained quite a bit of top-end.
As long as it makes more power than my Mac ORP I think I'd be happy....even if I do lose a little torque in the midrange.

Re: Duals without the X-pipe?
Get the X-pipe. It will sound great, roughly the sound of 8 cylinders on each side. As for the question if one muffler is better then two, no. Most people know by now that one muffler for a high performance LS1 doesn't cut it. If you want great flow and horsepower then two mufflers is the way to go, otherwise no one would be getting true duels in the first place.

I have the same setup as NightHawk. It scares away the assclown ricers, and lets people know I am coming down to the local hangout 3 minutes before I actually get there.

Re: Duals without the X-pipe?
I'm just running moroso spiral flows off the headers and then out the side. I'm guessing I lost a little down low but I bet it gained on top. I'd bet if you polled most of the big gun racing guys they're running straight duals with no cross over. It's gonna be loud though.
