Default Ms3

Would I need to run more gear for the MS3? Car has the stock 3:42.

you could get away with stock gears....but higher ratio would really help the manners of the cam.

You may not NEED more gear but obviously it would certantly be beneficial. For an mn12 car the prodominant opinion appears to be that with just a street car 4.10's are very fun and perfect for the application but if you are going to be running the 1/4 very much you will run out of gear and 3.90's are more ideal for the application. Either way i would definately reccomend gears expecially if you are doing install yourself and don't have to pay for someone elses time.

I have the MS3 cam in my '02 SS M6. With the stock 3:42's, that cam was great for racing from a roll, like 40mph+. Now that I have the 4:10's, there is definately more "get-up-and-go" out of first gear, and all over the entire RPM band.

Any 230+ cam needs 4.10 or lower in my opinion to really make the cam shine. You will not run out of gear with 4.10's in the 1/4 unless you are trapping 130mph. I would not put a set of 3.73's in 6 speed car if they were free. Not enough difference from stock gears. Remember, the 6 speed has a very high 2.66 1st gear which is why the 6 speed needs the 4.10.

If I wasnt going to spray the car I would run 4.30's.

i have the MS3 and with the 3.42 it drove just fine, however it does take alot longer for the came to get through the power band, with the 4.10 and an M6 at 80mph, its still only doing 2100RPM and it VERY fun to drive, to get traction when you get on it hard though...its a full time drag radial car, lol.
