Default What muffler to replace my Flowmaster?

The only performance modification to my car is a Flowmaster muffler welded into the stock pipes. I loved Flowmaster 2 chambers on all of my Mustangs, they sounded mean, but I'm not liking the Flowmaster on my Z28.

It has way too much "burble" I guess you would call it. Too much "blub blub blub" sound especially during deceleration. It sounds totally different than what it did on the Mustangs.

I've been told it is an 80 series muffler. I didn't even know Flowmaster made an 80 series until I got this car. Back when I was heavy into performance cars and racing they made 1 chambers(10 series), 2 chambers(20 series) and 3 chambers(30 series). Does that mean my muffler is an 8 chamber?

I want to replace it. I don't necessarily want anything louder, just better sounding. I'm going to get a cutout when I get my long tubes and y-pipe for when I want loud. I just want something that sounds better. Slightly louder isn't a problem, but I'd still like to have a conversation with my friends or wife when cruising with the roof closed and windows up.

The trick is, I'd like it to fit the factory catback pipes. I'd like to leave my tailpipes and i-pipe in place and just cut and replace the muffler. AND it still has to sound decent with my long tubes and y-pipe.

So what do you guys recommend?

Sound clips would be awesome.

Thank you in advance.

just wait til you get longtubes and ory and do it all at once. hooker is a good system. also i like mufflex with the RACE series flowmaster. it sounds badass! the great thing about mufflex is that it will always flow what you need it to no matter what you do to your car.

i had a flowmaster 40 on my 97 Z with the stock exhaust system and it sounded good. My 01 Ta has ARH long tubes and a slp loudmouth 2 and it sounds killer(with the ms4 cam)
