Default Is the FIPK worth it?

I was going to go to Auto Zone tomorrow and pick up an FIPK, but I don't know that it's worth the $387 they want for it. Dyno sheets show about +14hp on a stock car, but I don't know they I'm buying it. What could I get for that money that would actually be worth it? Keep in mind that it would have to be installed by me by myself and I have limited access to tools, space, and knowledge.

honestly, i wouldn't waste the money. just do the free mods.. the lid and the free mods will get you right around the same as the FIPK.

I think those SLP lids, or the fasttoys.com lids are pretty nice....I have seen very few camaros/transams running those K&N FIPK systems

i have one and i think they look better than a lid, but to be honest, that's all your paying for. i'm trying to sell mine for a fast toys 85mm lid but only because it will fit my new MAF better.

Mine came with it, so it was free for me. That said, I doubt I would buy one for $387. There are many alternatives that are cheaper that I am sure are just as good or better. Hell you could probably make something very similar for half that with a good filter. I do like mine, but I wouldn't have bought it.

the FIPK is a HOT air intake system. It draws air from the hot *** engine bay and not the hood/radiator deflector.

I was just about to post the same thing. The FIPK puts out good #'s, but thats because when a car is on the dyno, the hood is up & there's usually a fan blowing cool air on the motor, so that open filter is exposed to plenty of cool air. Close the hood however, and its just sucking up the hot air from the engine bay

What should I do instead. I have access to basic hand tools and a jack. I am also smart enough to be able to follow directions or find some one how to do certain things. I had thought about a cam, but didn't know how much it would cost me to get one installed.

do a lid. they're super easy to install and cheaper than the k&n. out of all the lids out there, i'd go with the fast toys 85mm lid and do the free ram air mod while your at it.

if you want a k&n though, i may sell mine for much cheaper than a new one and it's in good condition. it'll still be a little bit more than a lid though, because that's what i'll be switching to haha.

go with a lid just as much horsepower but for much cheaper and easier to install. I have a slp lid and I would not have gone with any other.

I don't know guys. The people at K&N couldn't be that stupid...When the car is moving, that little cove gets plenty of cold air. It's only when the car is moving very slowly that it heaves from under the hood.

Never the less, I recommend a simple lid with a good paper filter.

$387 is way overpriced... put the money toward an LS6 intake and keep your lid/ paper filter. Also, that K&N filter oil gets all over your MAF and makes things a mess...

lol....Thats if you overoil the filter, not if it is properly oiled. K&N is still the best filter out there for the most part. I'd say put a lid on it, and a K&N drop in, do the free ram air mod and have fun.

I can recommend the FIPK. It looks so much more clean in the engine bay. The sound becomes a little meaner. I've also noticed a gain in horses as well as a small gain in mpg. Even my gf noticed a difference in the ride without me having mentioned that I installed the kit. If you're interested, I'm actually selling an unused kit on another thread for $200 OBO + shipping:
