Default Backfires on Start up. Bad Cam Sensor?

My car sometimes starts right up, or takes a few tries or backfires really bad multiple times after i stop trying to start it. Could this be a bad cam sensor or crank sensor? Any other sugestions?

The crank sensor is used for timing, and the cam sensor is used to find out when TDC is. It could be a bad connection. Can you get it scanned for codes, that will tell you right away.

It is the cam sensor. Is that the sensor on the driver side of the car towards the front of the engine?

If your talking about the one on the side of the head that is the coolant sensor...my 98 pops and backfires when it's cold ,then it goes away when it warms up.

The cam sensor is in the back of the block, next to the MAP sensor. Reach behind your intake on the driver's side and you should feel it next to the Oil Pressure sending unit.

Have you checked your spark plug wires?

Yeah all the wires and plugs are all new from when I did the headers. That is when all these problems started I wonder if i messed something up when i pulled the rubber hose from egr valves out. Or are there any wires from it that can come in contact with the headers?

When I installed my longtubes on the passenger side there was a sliver colored wire loom that rested on the header for an short time during start up, I was luckly it didn't burn threw. So start checking for burnt wires .Make sure you O2 sensors are routed away from the headers. Also is the check engine light on

You Probally cracked the porcelian on one of your spark plugs, that happended to my car after a header install and it took forever to figure out, check ALL your plugs for a hairline crack

It does have the check engine light on for the rear 02s, air, egr, and cam sensor.

Would it run perfectly fine once it starts with a cracked plug?

Yeah im going to change the sensor. I may just buy hp tuners so i can try and tune it myself. Lol i just wish the stupid sensor would have went bad when i had the intake off to change the oil sensor.
