Default We have 1/4mile times how bout your cam install times?

Just curious as to what other members have done and the list of modifications that also took place during their own cam install....no not any from professional shops. I want to hear from people like me, that are the do it yourselfr' type of guy or guys since I have done all of my work with a friend somewhere to help along the line .

Let's see on my buddies 98 SS we did a install of heads/cam in his garage and a whole lotta of sweat and pain .

Installed 232/234 cam on a 114 lsa
Port and Polished LS6 heads from a 02 Z06 with a 3 angle valve job
Stock bolts on the heads
New gaskets throughout
Ported Oil Pump install as well

Total time cause we got stuck and f*cked on the mounts was a total of 22 hours and change.

Just curious to see what some of you guys have done and how long it took you

-Russ

Shouldn't this be in Internal Engine? But to answer, it took me and my buddy about 8 hours to do heads/cam/timing chain/oil pump/LT headers.

^ 8 hours is making some good time

Took me a month to install my LT's, but thats only because I started the install and got the headers on, then went to fit up the y-pipe and realized they had sent me an LT1 style y-pipe. Took forever to ship the wrong one back and get the new one. Other than that wouldn't have taken too long.

Agreed with Ls1form that this should be in internal.

Anyway my first cam swap, valvesprings, oil pump, timing chain took two 8 hour days by myself. The second cam swap took me about 5 hours to change the cam and install my ls6 intake. And it just took me about 12 hours to do headgaskets and lifters for the first time by myself.

And damn 8 hours is hauling broh, I think we would've been able to go faster except for the damn motor mounts being such a bitch.

In theory motor mounts should be easy as hell but they were far from it. I decided to do mine on one of the hottest days of the summer and by the time I had finished the driver's side I was ready to burn the car to the ground. I never did do the passenger side but the driver's side is the important one so it doesn't bother me.

Just cause everything has to line up freaking perfectly and thank god my car already had them done when I bought it cause otherwise it would've have just gone to a shop and been done there...

I still try to figure out what took us sooo long but I don't really know why other than the mounts not lining up on block and vice versa.

Come on guys I know there are more of you do it youselfer's!

I would also have to say that if we didn't do my buddies motor mounts I do think everything would have been installed in 9-10 hours at the most.

First time I did a head/cam swap it took 14 hours...but that was on a 1996 Mustang, they are a little bit more complicated than these cars...

Yeah I had a 06 GT and the only way I would've done heads/cam swap would be to have a local mustang shop do it...2 cams installed within 3 three degrees of each other definitly not something i wanted to try and do lol...

First one took a weekend.
Was a great tasting beer and a nice lope once it started.

Now...probably 7-8 hours.
