Putting motor back in from top, have some questions
First of all, I am going in from the top, not the bottom. It already came out from the top and that's the way it is going back in.
I'm wondering how much of the motor I can have installed before it goes back in the car. Has anyone put it back in with the intake on? I'm pretty sure I can have the heads on the motor and get it back in. What about accessories? Water pump? Bellhousing? (6 speed)
Any help is appreciated, the hood is already off so I have plenty of room.

The intake isn't a huge deal because it's pretty easy to install with the motor in the car, but I'm wondering about the water pump, power steering pump, etc..

Ive dropped 2 in from the top I found that its easiest without the heads and no accessories, not even the crank pully. The accessories and crank will catch on the radiator cross member. Unless you use studs the heads are not hard to install in the car. you can leave the oil pressure sending unit in but just BE CARFULL. The m6 car we pulled the trans out on the a4 we left it in and aligned the motor with it on the way in. get a buddy to help goin back in cause one can operate the hoist and the other can tilt the motor. have fun.

i have done it with everything on the motor(intake, heads, all accessories)
It was a tight fit but doable with some patience
the radiator was not installed though obviously

Took mine out and back in with heads, bellhousing, oil sender, driver side valve covers with spacers. No intake, accessories, or passenger side valve cover. Very easy, no problems

It came out pretty easy with the bellhousing on so I might try that. I'm worried about being able to get the bellhousing back on with it in the car since those dowel pins are such a pain.
