Default Your Donkey D!ck cam aint got sh*t on me...

Thought that title would get some attention...

Just wanted to post that you dont need a huge cam, gears, or 90/90 to turn good numbers at the track...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-racing-results/1003901-cam-only-10-92-121mph.html

Obviously they do help i am not saying they dont just wanted to show newbs picking out a cam that larger is not always the answer...dont just jump on the ms3, trex, ms4 bandwaggon unless you are absolutely sure it is what you want...friendly post just showing some other options...

Hrmmmmm....

Maybe I can mimic these times or get close to them.(Seeing as i have the same cam with "stawk" heads) I shaved some weight, but not that much. Well, I haven't weighed it yet. I'll defintey need some suspension and tires.

I have had the cam installed for 7months now, but never even started the engine yet, lolerskates

I agree, cam in my 402 is no bigger then a trex and that's a 100% race setup.

You can most certainly go overboard with the cam, and see no gains other then added valvetrain wear.

congrats TSP
but it was also quite a bit lighter than the OP's car...so not exactly apples to apples comparison..the MS4 is a good cam if you keep it in it's powerband, great for the strip.but crap for a street car..

What the the TSP car weigh, I'm gonna guess sub 3000 lbs.

Regardless I mean 9.8 is fast, but there's questions that could lead to some of how they got there like:

Raceweight
Timing
Fuel

That's the first 3 that come to mind that IMO would greatly effect what the car can do, if you're willing to put C16 in it and crank the timing to 30 degrees or more, and the car weigh's 2900 lbs with driver (I throw that # out there becasue with only a 10 pt cage it can be done, seen it twice on f body's now) obviously what the car will do is a different story from a 3300 lb car with pump gas in it.

2800 lbs LOL. Yeah, at that weight, with 30 degrees of timing and race fuel they could have stuck anything with 240 duration in there and it would run the #.

Definitely don't need a huge cam to get good times, but your car is NOT the norm when it comes to mid sized cams

Wow, so now a 230/230 cam is considered mid-size? I guess I've got a baby cam at 224/224.

Congrats.

congrats TSP
oh yeah i know it will make slightly more power...but look at my 60ft and look at the CAM ONLY list...i have pulled a 1.4000 before and that was in positive DA...i think it has a 1.39 in some - DA...

So how can i pull such a good 60ft...i think it is due to the combo of course and that i am making almost 400RWTQ...my dads prc 2.5s/ms3/90/90 car at a 3175 raceweight is pulling the same 60ft...but he has around 375 tq...

the bigger cams have there place for sure and i would get my *** handed to me if i went up against an all out strip car, but i drove my car car 45minutes to the track on my 100% stock 10 bolt 3.23 gears, and i still have a stock ls6 intake, no 90/90 yet...

Just showing there is other options, and yes my car is a friek but by design...there are no pacestter headers on it or fuddle converter, yes it has a custom ram air because it helps 25rwhp...the car is a max effort for what it has done...

i mean realistically what would a ms3 or trex give me over my 230/230 now 10hp at max would be my guess but i would have to give up some bottom end tq too...

Just showing the otherside of the coin...

dont get your title then since you say the MS4 aint got crap on your cam.....why not say....hey my cam does good for a mild cam....you dont need a huge cam to go fast....but I'd be willing to bet with your high stall a MS4 in your car would have gone faster...Im no TSP cheerleader or anything but numbers are numbers
