stock LS1 w/ TFS heads & H.S. R.R.'s-pushrod rubbing on head!
I have a stock 99 LS1. Only mods are long tubes and a Procharger. I just installed 215 Trick Flow cylinder heads, Harland Sharp 1.7 ratio roller rockers, Trick Flow 7.5" pushrods and LS7 lifters.
I buttoned everything up and started the engine. All I got was a horrible noise like metal hitting on metal! I pulled the valve covers off and found that the pushrods are hitting on the cylinder head's pushrod hole! How can this be happening???
I have only got the pass. side valve cover off, tomorrow I will check the driverside.

That's the first time i've heard of this. Who did you order the heads from? I know TEA will clearance the heads a bit to make sure that the rockers themselves won't hit but there shouldn't be a problem with the pushrods. How many of them are rubbing

i would pull the other valve cover off and look to see if that side is hitting also, if that side is ok, it is possible that one head could have been machined wrong, but the possibility of two heads machined wrong is less likely. but i would look at the other side first

I also found 2 broken Harland Sharp rockers. One has a broken pedestal and the other has a broken center shaft.

I have been discussing this issue with Greg @ Trick Flow and we have not came to a conclusion. I am going to send the heads back to them so that they can take a look at them. I am starting to think that something else is causing this other than a defective head.
I must say, Trick Flow has outstanding customer service! I took up alot of there time today discussing this and they were open minded to any possibility and willing to work with me to get my car rollin! A++

No, I don't know what is going on yet. Greg from TFS is going to rig up one of the heads and check it out.
I am leaning more towards the lifters causing the problem. I think that at least one of them totally colapsed and caused the pushrod to contact the head and then it lost contact with the rocker. At this point I am kind of guessing.

Sometimes if the rockers sit right (roller wipe pattern is correct) then the pushrod can rub on the hole (side nearest fulcrum).
I had the same problem with my Comp Cams #1500 system and it is the geometry of the roller system (1.7 ratio).
The cure?
Widen that part of the hole with a Dremel and a shop vac.
Use the longest pushrod that you can.
Your not the first one to have that happen.

Hopefully you'll get this taken care of and get your car back together. It sould make some killer power with these heads. Good luck bro.
