Default How high can you take a stock bottom end LS1?

Ok fellas how far can one safely take a stock bottom end LS1 with dual vavle springs and hardened PR's? Ive heard that later on the LS1's recieved better rod bolts so some can rev higher than others. Mine is an 02 so could I set my shift point at around 7000 or am I asking for trouble?

you should be safe seeing as you have a 02 with the upgraded rod bolts. i shift my 99 at 6800 with stock bottom end so you shouldn't have a problem.

6800 should be your limit even with a 02 and that is max.

I think 7000 is pushing the limits. I agree with abq99ta that 6800 should be the max on a stock bottom end even for a later model ls1.

With Katech Rod-Bolts I have a few friends shifting at 7,200rpm on high mileage motors. I think Jonathan at Tick Performance will try to take his to the limit so keep an eye on him.

I shift at 7000rpm with a 7200 limiter...

Six Speeds Inc went as high at 7600 or 7800 I believe when they set the 6spd H/C record at 10.11

Not really. There are no guarantees of course but Mike @ New Era Performance told me he has set rev limiters to 6500 many times on 98-00 cars and seen them have great success for a long time.

I just saw this thread and thought I'd reply since I was mentioned (although I'm a couple days late LOL).

Right now we're turning the current engine in my car to 7300 through the traps. Stock bottom end with Katech bolts. We turned it repeatedly to 7600 rpms on the dyno with no problems yet. Years ago I turned one to 6800 rpms with the limiter at 7000 all the time with a 150 TNT system on top of cam/heads/etc. with stock rod bolts in a 99 model. Eventually it snapped a rod later on with a 200 shot making right at 600 rwph, but the cause was a spun bearing.

When the rod broke it had arp bolts, an upgrade I did to support the 200 shot LOL.

I feel like the oiling system was the cause of that failure. With the current combo we're using a Canton pan with a remote mounted filter. No factory windage tray to allow an easier pather for the oil to return(it wouldn't fit with the canton pan anyway) and 5w20 oil which will also allow the oil to return to the pan quicker. We're also using a ported melling pump with the high pressure spring. We're seeing around 80 psi of pressure above 6000 rpms even with the thin oil.

The factory oil pan is very, VERY restrictive where the oil routes into and out of the filter. By going to the Canton pan we eliminate several sharp 90 degree turns as the oil flows through the filter. Now the oil flows through -10 line to a much larger filter.

This fall we're going to push the limits of the stock bottom. An even lower gear is going in which should put us around 7700 through the traps.

What springs/rocker arms do you use on a setup like that?

Shift @ 6400, Rev limiter set to 6600. Hit the rev limiter a couple times and logged 6800+. Stock '00 bottom end with 130k miles.

Could not even begin to tell you how many times I clipped the 7K limiter with my 99. I have recently added Katechs for ease of tempting fate but the limiter got bumped to 7100.
