Default cam for PRC 2.5 LS6 with Vig 3200 Stall?

I have a 98 ta with a vig 3200 stall and a 224/230 cam currently. I am about to purchase a set of PRC 2.5 LS6 heads from texas speed and figured I would go with something a little more agressive as far as a cam goes. The car gets drove 20 days out of the year....maybe. It does make the occasional 2 1/2 hour trip home but other than that its usually to the races and back home. It would be awesome if it was one of the cams that are available to choose from their head and cam package so I could save a few bucks.

You could upgrade to a torquer 3 or MS4, but you would only pick up 10 or so rwhp from your current cam. Your going to get a big seat of the pants difference when you install the heads. If you are looking for every last HP then go for it. TSP used the MS4 in their own record setting H/C car. It would also be a good choice since the car isn't on the road every day. You may want to have the heads milled to increase the compression. If you do that you need to cut valve reliefs in the pistons for extra P/V clearance.

I have been told the MS4 by quite a few people and I know the cam has a history for turning impressive times but how well would it be suited with my stall?

If you are looking for something more aggressive but still be very streetable, I would throw a Torquer v.3 in with the heads. The cam makes great power, has an aggressive sounding idle, but with a good tune should have good street manners. Tyipcally Vigilante converters are a bit on the loose side so I would think the converter would work fine. The heads will come with the PRC Platinum springs so you won't need to worry about springs and I am assuming you already have chromoly pushrods. If not, let me know and we will get you a set. Let me know what you think or if you have any questions and we'll get you fixed up right away!

Since the car is a 98 I have been told that I need to change over to the 99+ PCV system and centerbolt valvecovers. Is there any truth to this?

Yes, on the perimeter bolt headed cars you will need center bolt valve covers and coil brackets. The easy way will be to get the 99+ PCV hoses and all, but you could modify yours and/or add a catch can to help with oil consumption.

im running a 3200 vigilante stall. im running the MTI X1 230/227 right now. if i were to go bigger to compliment the stall it would have been maybe a speed inc si5 231/237 cam.

what kind of power might i expect using a torquer v3 with those heads? Are either the ms4 or the torquer v3 ok to use with nitrous spraying 150-200?

Personally I would keep the cam and mill the heads down with a ported Fast, but for a different cam selection I would look in to a MS3 if wanting to spray.

i am just really depressed with the numbers that my car put down as it sits. the 224/230 .581/.592 114lsa, only gave me 361rwhp and 353rwtq. I am looking for a good cam that will give me more power off the bottle but will let me spray. The car always was a beast with nitrous hooked up to it but I dont like to be so dependent on the bottle to make it fast.

At first i too wasent happy with my numbers (376rwhp) but at the track is where our autos shine. You have a good foundation to work on. Just do your research and find the cam that works for you and your goal.

if i was buying my heads and cam over again.. i would buy TSP new aftermarket casting... but doesnt seem you want to spend that money......

i would do one of these......

ms4 with stg 1 ls6 heads... (this is what i did)

ms3 with stg 2.5 heads, or stg 2.5 5.3 heads

both of those should be able to be bought for under 2 grand... only one that may be more is the ms3 with the stg 2.5 ls6s
