Default MTI Z1 cam on stock heads/block??

I have come across a MTI Z1 cam (236/236 .585 .585 @ 112LSA) for a reasonable price and after doing some searching I've found this seems to be a camshaft made for bigger cube applications than the stock LS1 346 displacement.

I have your average bolt-on's, such as LT's, x-pipe and dual exhaust, lid, msd wires/plugs, and ported TB. Does anyone have any good information on how this might perform across the RPM band? I've heard it is sluggish on the low end due to its application being more towards a stroker/bigger block applications.

Also, does anyone have good recommendations on what I will need to safely swap this cam out for my stocker? I am assuming I will do a timing chain, upgraded oil pump (mine's a 2000), springs and push rods.

As far as future modding, I plan on upgrading to a LS6 intake relatively soon other than that I'm pretty set on the motor from here on out.

ANY information/inputs/comments are gladly welcomed as i have searched around and read the FAQ's but have not found much to my particular application.

Thanks,
-Seth

On a stock shortblock it's gonna be pretty dickless below 4K. It will be high rpm/peak power. Basically the car will feel like a turd driving around town.

4k and below is A LOT of rpm's to being losing power.

Has anyone had success with this cam on stock heads and displacement?!?!

If there is a set of heads that will make good power with this cam I will consider holding off untill i can afford the heads but I have just come across a really good deal on this cam and want to know if i can make any good power on just a bolt LS1 with it...

The deal can't be THAT good to make you have to buy $1000+ worth of heads to make the cam work for you.

Whats the most you would save? Even if it was $100, you're only saving $260 off the $360 a custom cam would cost.

Hell, a Patriot 226/226 .585"/.585" 112 LSA is only $280 and would suit you SO much better by the sounds of it
