Default LS1 difference - 1998 Corvette vs 1998 Z28

Okay...
I've done a search on this because I saw it somewherez a while back. Now I can't find it when I need it.

Please, only people who can truly offer some insight, chime in:

What is the difference between the LS1 in the (1998) Corvettes vs Camaros?
* I'm pretty sure the cam in the Corvettes was a little less aggressive, but the intake manifold was a little less restrictive.
* I've heard that other than a little tinkering here and there, the Camaros basically had the exact same LS1 engine that was in the Corvettes - the Corvette's less restictive exhaust was what gave that extra freed up HP
* How much (at the factory) does tuning play a role in giving the Corvette LS1 more HP?
* If someone were to order a '98-99 Corvette LS1 engine and drop it into a Z28 (or say...an RX-7), how could you tell if it was a Corvette LS1 or a Z28 LS1?
.

biggest difference is the accessories on the front

all ls1s make about the same power regardless of what GM says

Only difference was peripheral accessories and oil pan. The motor itself is the same

If you're looking to do a motor swap in anything you need to shy away from the 98 motors all together. Heads flow a few less cfm than the newer years, valve covers suck because of the individual coil pack mounts, weak rod bolts, etc etc.

You cant go wrong with any Ls1 motor, the newer ones made 15hp more due to the intake....woopie

And they had stronger rod bolts, and a little bit different cam, and the valve covers/coil pack mounts were different.

Anything 01+ would be the best, you can get the newest LS1 out of the 04 GTO and it had the best cam out of the LS1 engines + all the rob bolts and the LS6 intake and all, but if you could get a 2002+ Z06 LS6 thats even mo bettah

98, 83,000 miles, pounded with nitrous for the past 3 years hard, stock rod bolts, still runs as great as it did when I bought it with 29,000 on it 8 years ago \/ \/ \/ \/ \/.

No real noticeable difference in power

All `01-04 LS1's are the same GTO Engines were not any
different.

To the OP
Only difference between a `98 Vette and `98 F-body LS1
Intake manifold (F-bodies have EGR)
Throttle Body (F-body is cable operated)
Camshaft (corvette has tighter LSA but less lift)
Exhaust manifolds, Oilpan, Accessories (all due to packaging constraints of the different chassis)
And they both should be within 5 HP of each other.

If your dropping in a motor the later model LS1/LS6 is the way to go other than the fuel system. The 97/98 motors have the fuel pressure regulator at the fuel rail and it is a return system also. There are aftermarket adjustable fuel pressure regulators available for the 97/98 motors which work great...running one personally. The later models have the regulator in the fuel pump and it is not a fuel return system.Basicly what I am saying is if your doing the motor replacement from the ground up...then use the 97/98 fuel system...it's a must for a ideal nitrous set up.

I am presently running a 2004 LS6 383 with the original 98 fuel system (other than fuel pressure regulator).
