The LS1/LS6 damper is no longer made and pretty much impossible to find. It does prevent chain wrap around the crank sprocket, which is an issue with an LSx motor at around 4,000 RPM or so. Double chain will not prevent this problem, but it is mostly seen by those who road race as there is much more time spent at these RPM levels. I know someone who just broke his second chain (double) due to this problem and he just scored a used damper to install as he couldn't find one.

Yep, because GM never installed it on the line it was only available through GMPP in limited numbers. The newer motors have it from the factory, needless to say GM is making tons of them and the price is $10. Won't fit older motors though.

No, bolt spacing is different.

PS: I contacted Robin at GMPP who is on this board to find out if they could start production again. Haven't hear back from him as of yet but if you PM him as well he may understand there are quite a few guys trying to obtain this part.

I think they were actually in the first 97 ls1's in the vette but discontinued after that.

Of course that does nobody any good....

i wonder why its a problem with LS motors, in 40 years with s/b's i never had a problem with timing chains(except those dam plastic ones the factory used)
when i built this LS motor i used a comp cams one, seemed fine-i did have a factory setup i bought, single roller, and when i installed it, it was just to loose for me, so thats why i switched-i still have all the GM part #'s i used on the single roller, maybe i had a mis match, i think the cam gear was for an ls2 front cam pickup sensor

Yea those old nylon chains would stretch. I had one jump time and backfire through the carb and catch fire in 70 Olds Cutlass
