Default Will LS6 heads clear a 5.3 bore?

Just wondering, a buddy and I are swapping an LS based engine into his M3 and we were wondering if we could put LS6 heads on an aluminum 5.3 block. Thanks!

they'll fit but the bigger combustion chamber may shroud the valves, and also lower the compression ratio

Yes they will fit. They are stock on some 05+ 5.3s. They do lower the compression a bit(62cc chambers vs 65cc chambers) as mentioned above.

If it's the aluminum block 5.3 it already has or had LS6 heads from the factory(casting number 243 or 799). They also have flat top pistons to compensate for the larger combustion chamber. Milling still wouldn't hurt though.

Yes, If I remember correctly on the 62cc chamber for every .005" milled is 1cc of chamber volume-

Stock bottom-end 346c.i. LS1, TSP Magic Stick 4 camshaft, and PRC 215cc heads. The car is naturally aspirated. It is currently the quickest NA stock-bottomend heads/cam car in the country!

Chances are that the cam will not clear those heads. If they have a larger than stock valve in them, the cam will not clear. What other bolt on's are done to the car? What are your future plans and goals out of it? Let me know and I will see if we can set you up with a cam to meet your needs!

Thanks!
