Default Quick head Gasket question

So, I have a mis-match of parts but I'm trying to do the best I can for now. I'm running a 6.0ltr iron block with a 853 head. An MLS gasket leaks (due to the notch) and the only gasket that seems usable is the Fel-Pro Q9199PT (http://store.summitracing.com/partde...&view=1&N=700+) 'cos it's a Laminate and not MLS (and the GM laminate gaskets don't work on a 6.0)... anyone know the compressed thickness of this gasket/etc. and with the 4.00 bore on it work? I'm guessing yes 'cos it's a replacement for the 6.0ltr engines.

Why not fill the notch? The guy who ported them tried using a high temp epoxy but that got brittle and cracked and fell out and in time, started leaking. Filling it by Welding it would mean that the shop has to heat up the head, possibly causing a warp and then the surface will possibly need to be re-milled/etc. and that's not something I wanna dump cash into right now. And I'm not gonna switch heads right now either since these heads are ported/polished/flow matched/valved/etc. and again, $'s is an issue.

Thanks for your help.

Default cometic gaskets

I had just recently talked with tech support from cometic gaskets and had asked if there head gaskets would work with the older heads that had the notch in them. They said there gaskets would work. you can contact them if you want and find the right part number for your appilcation and thichness.

Nothing wrong, it's just the way the casting is from the factory, it has a small notch in the mating surface under the 2nd exhaust port, so it wont seal in that area. This is fine when used with the older style single layer gaskets. But, when you use it with the MLS gaskets, the fact that it doesn't apply pressure in that certain area causes the coolant to seep through the layers and leak to the outside (nothing interanal). 853's had it, 241's didn't.

just for closure (and jic this thread comes up on a search), the Felpro 1041's work with this combo and they're in the process of being installed. Yeah, I've taken my own damn time getting the car back together ... it's winter!
