Found a 5.3L Vortec on Craigslist
I found a 5.3 Vortec Block everything without Intake, injectors, TB etc. for 300 locally. Good deal if its not cracked or anything? Would it be a good block to use for performance? LS1 and LS6 parts transfer over and it should be a 6bolt main correct? Also its iron

No. You can get a 6.0 iron block for less than 300 if you're going to have to rebuild the bottom end. If it smokes it could be valve seals or pison rings. Theres really no way of doing a good compression check or leak down test without having the engine warmed and operating first.

Oh no it doesnt matter then. $300 though doesnt seem like that great of a deal for a bottom end needing a rebuild with no intake injectors or anything. If you're going to rebuild i would think you should be able to get a 6.0L longblock that needs to be rebuilt for that price.

I dont really care about the intake Id end up taking it off anyways. Should I just wait to find more and let this one pass? Also whats the average price for a 2000 LS1 engine harness and PCM? Just so I know what to offer

Well there are great deals to be had. I personally wouldnt go for it if i KNEW i had to rebuild it. When i bought my 2001 LS1, it has all accerssories, intake, harness pcm, but had taken a hit in the oil pan. So it was a gamble but seemed to be fine. I got it for $710 with 60k on it a year ago. It was from a 99 camaro and was obviously a warranty replacement engine or atleast the cylinder heads since they were 241s. I sold my intake, harness, pcm, and other things i didnt need for $520 so really i got a $190 LS1 longblock.
If it were an aluminum 5.3 its one thing but because its an iron one its slightly less valuable. I would pass. Maybe someone else can chime in and offer an opinion. I'd look for a Vortec 6000 if i were you. They can be had pretty cheaply now with the ecconomy being so bad.

I found my complete engine for $700. It's an aluminum 5.3L with 38K miles. it was missing a starter though. deals are out there. I'ts going in a 94 rx7 so I stayed away from the extra 80lb weight penalty.
