Default What is milling a head?

Can anyone explain to me what milling the head actually is? I tried to google it and came up with nothing. If someone has some pictures of what non milled to milled looks like that would be great. thanks .

prett sure its is just shaving part of the head off on the bottom part of it, so the chambers become smaller and you get more compression.

It's not part of the head ...It's the side with the combustion chamber is(side with the intake and exhaust valves) ..People mill heads for additional compression.

And if you look at pictures its gona look the same by eye

Think of it as planing a peice of wood, or putting a block of cheese on a slicer and slicing a very thin layer off of it. The amount milled is measured in thousandths of an inch (0.001) intervals.

All above is correct. Will net you slightly higher compression but alot of dealership service centers will have the heads slightly milled as a way to ensure they're completely flat. We occasionally send them out for this.
