Default best way to go cam heads

ok i have a 2002 camaro 6 speed tv 3 cam (right now) stock heads. just feel that i need a lil more. i was told that trick flow heads 215 would help hude. also been told to scrap my cam and get lg gx 3 cam with heads.

Any advice on just adding heads to my setup ( would prefer) but im not against getting a new head and cam set.

thanks!

change your heads and intake manifold. that would make your cam 'breath' alot better. but really its your choice in the long run to swap your cam.

If you can afford it, AFR, Trick Flow and EPT. The aftemarket castings tend to make more torque than the stock ported castings. I have the PRC 5.3s myself and I am very happy with them. Can't beat them for the money. When I build a 402, I will be rockin some AFRs or Trickflows.

The cam you have is good. No reason to switch to the gx3 cam in my eyes. Torquer is a nice decnet sized cam. If you were a 224 or so then I would say go for it.

Hope this helps

LS6 heads as well as intake. Intake can be had for only $300-$400 bucks and heads for $400 or so. Stage 1's are LS6 heads that have been worked on a little from Texas guys...usally come with springs..id look into that.

I'd say between the LS6 intake and the Stage 1 LS6 heads....probly a 29-44rwhp gain.

its all up to you and what you want out of your car. im going to go with the prc 2.5 5.3l heads when i get my v3 cam cuz i want to make up for the lower rpm range that is lost from a big cam. but im gonna have TSP mill them and work out the package so that i dont need to fly cut my pistons. but if i had lots of money to put into my heads i would go with the Trick Flows and have them ported.

You would port a full CNC'd set of heads?

When i get my Tq. v3 cam after tax returns, I'm going to run it with stock 243's for some more cheap power. If i had the extra cash i would love to go with some TFS.

BTW how do you like the v3?
is it your DD?

I think the cam is fine.

TSP has some great budget heads. but if you have the cash Trickflow seem to be the best. after that the LS6 intake might be your weak point. You should be able to pick up 40-50 HP from a good set of heads.

Still looking for more try a fluiddampyr ( under drive pulley and harmonic balancer) and a Light weight fly wheel. the flywheel makes for a little quicker throttle response and saves a little HP while your at it. ( 5-10 estimates i've heard)

The torquer 3 should definately stay in the car, I'd be shocked if you made more power with the x3 over the torquer. Our PRC stage 2.5 5.3l heads will sell for around 1200 bux with new spring kit & gain 45rwhp. If your looking for something more the PRC215 head has been dyno tested next to the major cylinder head manufacturers & they show tons of promise! A independent shop recently made over 480rwhp with a stock bottom end m6 car with a Tsunami camshaft

i would get some heads, intake mani, custom cam
it all depends on your mods and future plans to what size cam you would run but the intake and heads would make your current setup breathe better

The trick is always get heads and cam that are designed for each other. When components are designed to work together from the begining your car will always make more power and run better at the track then if you pick random parts of the shelf.

I have been very happy with my CARTEK 4X H/C setup, [ls6 heads] it runs like a raped ape, and never gave me problems.

The O.P. might not, but if I spend the money on Trick Flow heads I would have them gone through by a experienced head ported. Clean up the runners, maybe even do another valve job on them. Might as well get every ounce of power out of them if Im already droping that kind of coin.
